How to Clean Handmade Rug?
A rug or kilim is a flat, lint-free fabric made of warp and weft. The design and texture of carpets are often colorful and are commonly used in busy areas of the house; Therefore, they are more exposed to pollution and stains.
Surface stains can be removed using manual methods such as brushes, vacuum cleaners and gentle cleaners, and professional cleaners can be used to remove stronger stains. Remember that if the stain stays on the carpet for more than a day or two, it will be fixed, so it is recommended to remove the stain as soon as possible with the suggested methods.
Method one: Manually clean the handmade carpet
1- Before cleaning the carpet, if you want to make sure that there is no dirt, dirt particles or dust on its surface; Take both sides of the rug and shake it to remove dust and debris, then gently sweep.
The carpet should be on a flat surface to make the cleaning process easier.
You can use any broom to clean the carpet, but traditional hand brooms with long hair and lint offer more control.
2- The best detergents for carpets; Mixing carpet shampoo with warm water and vinegar can be a gentle cleanser to remove stains. Combine half a cup (118 ml) of hand-woven carpet shampoo, four cups (1 liter) of warm water and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of white vinegar. Make sure the mixture is well mixed.
Cleaning carpets with carpet shampoo and vinegar helps preserve the color of the carpet.
3- Take a brush with relatively long and strong hair. Put it in the resulting solution (just moisten the brush, not so that water drips from the brush) and gently move it perpendicular to the carpet. Continue brushing the carpet in the same way until the stain is removed.
Note that carpet fibers are more brittle when wet. Therefore, brushing hard can damage the carpet.
Whenever you feel dry on the brush, be sure to wet it with the solution to make it easier to clean the carpet.
